ARTEMIS

The ARTEMIS project developed a Semantic Web Service-based P2P infrastructure for the interoperability of medical information systems.
The Web Service model encapsulates existing applications and provides access to documents in a standard way. It incorporates service providers, service consumers and service registries.
Service registries (using UDDI and ebXML) and P2P networks based on Web Service architectures do not provide semantically-enriched search capabilities. In the ARTEMIS project we developed extensions to these architectures to enable the discovery of Web Services based on their semantic descriptions.
ARTEMIS:
- provides an integration environment for disparate applications, both within the health care domain and with the organizations they communicate with;
- enables interoperability through semantically-enriched Web services;
- extends the life of existing software by exposing previously proprietary functions as Web services;
- saves time and money by cutting software development time in the health care domain;
- extends health care enterprises by making their services available to others;
- opens the door to new business opportunities by making it easy to connect with partners in the health care domain; and
- ensures security and privacy.
