Big Data Digital Innovation Platforms

Project Vision

There has been a slow uptake of big data solutions across Europe when compared with the USA and there remains a considerable skills gap in the EU, with 400,000 data-driven jobs unfilled. Equally, as a result of increasingly complex standardisation, regulation and legislation, support for SMEs and start-ups aiming to develop interoperable big data solutions based on open systems is even more necessary.

Hence, Data Market Services was born to overcome the barriers of data-based SMEs and start-ups in Europe in data skills, entrepreneurial opportunities, legal issues and standardisation, thanks to the provision of free support services.

Project Objectives

To identify and engage with SMEs and start-ups in the big data ecosystem
To provide 12 free support services (and training) to assist with overcoming business barriers
To measure and evaluate the outcomes of service use
To communicate best practice to the wider big data community

IT Innovation's Role

Technical

To provide an intelligent cybersecurity risk assessment tool, the System Security Modeller (SSM), to enable mutual trust between companies sharing their business data through rigorous risk assessment and mitigation.
