Project Vision

The project aims to design and initiate the establishment of a federated network of TREs within Wessex, as well as a TRE covering 3.7 million people for the tertiary services supplied by UHS. Given that federation is a major principle in the proposal, and since federating between two ICSs and a tertiary service is a major component, we envisage that key challenges will pave the way for larger scaling and replication nationally to other regions.

Project Objectives

Wessex TRE is part of the NHSx programme to advance national and sub-national trusted research environment.

The objectives are:

  • integrate the shared care records of two ICS regions, a major tertiary specialist centre and personal and civic datastores
  • utilise the technical, data integration and analytic capabilities developed through the UHS-UoS research partnership
  • test a model architecture of federated data sharing and governance (Social Data Foundation) with public engagement and support
  • drive improvements in research, innovation and planning

IT Innovation's Role

IT Innovation provides leadership of federation models building on the Web Sciences Institute work on data governance and stewardship through the Social Data Foundation
